He said that this unbalanced approach towards Kosovo needs to end.
“It is completely incomprehensible that the USA is setting extra conditions for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. This unbalanced approach by the USA towards Kosovo must definitely end. It’s not fair and it’s unjust. The Council of Europe and its member states are in the driver’s seat – not the USA.”
Roth wrote on X while resharing a post by his Bundestag colleague, Frank Schwabe, who also commented on statements by the American envoy, Gabriel Escobar, who said that in addition to the decision on the Dečani Monastery, Kosovo must fulfill two more conditions, including the Association.
“With all due respect to the U.S. Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, the Council of Europe is making possible things others could not achieve. And we will decide on Kosovo’s application for membership based on our rules and values,” Schwabe had written.
