Brussels Airport was temporarily closed on Tuesday following reports of a drone in the vicinity, the Belgian air traffic control service and an airport spokesperson confirmed.
“There are no arrivals or departures at the moment,” the spokesperson said, adding that it was unclear how long the airport would remain closed, according to Reuters.
The smaller Liège Airport also reported a temporary closure due to drone activity.
Kurt Verwilligen, spokesperson for Belgian air traffic control, stated that shortly before 19:00, a drone was spotted near Brussels Airport, prompting the closure as a precautionary safety measure.
Similar incidents occurred in September, when Copenhagen and Oslo airports were temporarily shut down due to drone sightings. Last weekend, drones were also observed over a Belgian military airbase.
