A solemn remembrance ceremony was held on Wednesday to honor the 24 civilian victims who died in a tragic United Nations plane crash in northern Kosovo on November 12, 1999. These individuals were part of international humanitarian missions assisting Kosovo in the aftermath of the war.
The aircraft, which departed from Rome, was carrying aid workers and supplies to support relief operations in Kosovo. The flight, designated as Flight 3275, never reached its destination at Prishtina Airport. It crashed amid foggy and cold weather conditions in the region of Shalë e Bajgorës, killing all on board.
The UNMIK mission in Kosovo commemorated the tragedy on its 26th anniversary.
“On a foggy, cold Friday morning, November 12, 1999, a plane carrying people from around the world — mostly humanitarian workers and aid personnel — arrived from Rome to Prishtina on Flight 3275. Their mission was to support relief operations in Kosovo. Tragically, the plane never reached Prishtina Airport.”

The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Kosovo, Milbert Dongjoon Shin, led a delegation to the crash site to pay respects to the victims. Representatives laid wreaths and observed a moment of silence as part of the remembrance.
This tragic event remains one of the most sorrowful moments in Kosovo’s post-war recovery, symbolizing the international commitment and sacrifice made during the country’s reconstruction efforts.
