Aleksandar Roknić, journalist for Danas, warned that the Serbian government systematically encourages the public to harass and intimidate journalists who do not align with state narratives.
Speaking on Dan uživo on TV N1, Roknić described the working environment for independent journalists as “hostile and extremely stressful.”
“For years, the authorities have portrayed critical journalists as enemies of the state, or even as agents of foreign intelligence. At the same time, government institutions routinely refuse to respond to legitimate inquiries, including requests under the Law on Free Access to Information, acting as if they are above the law,” Roknić stated.
He also addressed recent attacks on N1 reporters, noting the lack of police protection and ineffective law enforcement:
“The state, through its police, is effectively enforcing anarchy. This is bizarre. The attack on our reporters is a clear signal that the government is willing to suppress critical voices at any cost, even through physical violence,” he added.
Roknić’s remarks highlight a growing pattern of intimidation and repression of the press, underscoring the Vučić regime’s efforts to control public discourse and silence dissenting voices in Serbia.
