The Independent Union of Trepça Miners issued a stark warning today, declaring that working conditions inside the Flotation Mine have reached a critical and life-threatening point that can “no longer be ignored.”

In its statement, the union emphasized that miners face serious daily risks to their health and safety, while legally mandated workplace-safety trainings are still not being provided, in clear violation of labor regulations.

“Every day we witness serious and minor injuries. Many colleagues are left with permanent consequences, while others suffer injuries that no one sees except internal registries. The numbers are alarming,” the union stated.

The union cites obsolete equipment, lack of long-term investment, and chronic negligence as the main causes of these dangerous conditions. According to them, workers are forced to operate depreciated machinery and remain underground in high-risk environments simply to secure minimal income for their families.

The statement includes an urgent call to the new government, expected to be formed after the elections, to create a serious, long-term plan for the mining sector, including direct and immediate investment in Trepça.

“Without miners there is no production, and without production there is no Trepça,” the union noted.

The union also demands that management begin safety trainings immediately and take all necessary protective measures without delay.

The message ends with a clear warning: current conditions are “severe, dangerous, and unacceptable,” and miners “cannot wait any longer.”
