American and Russian officials are scheduled to meet on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi for talks on peace in Ukraine.

A US official confirmed to the BBC that the meeting will take place following deadly attacks during the night.

This comes after discussions in Geneva between the US and Ukrainian representatives regarding a draft peace plan.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that a virtual meeting with Ukraine’s European allies will take place later in the day.

Ahead of the meeting, Starmer stated that all alliance partners are focused on achieving a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The overnight attacks occurred shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed changes to a US-backed peace plan.

Kyiv and its European allies have urged the US to revise the plan, fearing it concedes too much to Russia.

Both Ukraine and the US have indicated progress in recent days, with Zelensky issuing another optimistic message late last night.

He stated that the plan, which initially included 28 points, has been reduced and that many essential elements have been taken into account.

“Now the list of necessary steps to end the war can become achievable,” he said.

US and Ukrainian officials met in Geneva on Sunday to discuss the plan. Russian representatives did not participate and dismissed the proposed changes as “entirely unconstructive.”
