A final peace plan must make it impossible for Russia to invade again, says the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
Kaja Kallas told BBC Radio 4’s Today program: “If we want this to end permanently, there truly must be concessions from Russia.”
“This approach would require Russia to respect international agreements and reduce its military,” Kallas said, according to BBC, reported by RKS News.
“You cannot have a situation where a country invades another… and there are no consequences.”
Regarding Russia rejoining the G8, Kallas emphasized that this “definitely should not” happen.
“We cannot go back to business as usual… how can anyone even imagine that?”
While acknowledging the “noble cause” of U.S. President Donald Trump in pursuing peace in Ukraine, Kallas also stressed that it is necessary to question what truly brings peace to the country.
