A heated discussion took place among members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) regarding the budget for the parliamentary elections scheduled for December 28, which was ultimately approved at over €11.4 million.

The initial cost presented at the CEC meeting was €7,771,486. The final approved budget includes an amendment proposed during the meeting, which allows for sending ballot packages to voters registered for postal voting.

According to the CEC, the approximate cost of sending ballot packages via postal services is €3,722,040, calculated for 84,000 potential voters.

Clashes in the CEC Over Diaspora Voting

The discussion among CEC members has been marked by raised voices and disagreements over the budget for the December 28 elections.

For the second consecutive day, members of the commission could not reach an agreement to vote on the election budget.

The main point of contention is the method of diaspora voting.

PDK members insist that ballots should be sent by mail to diaspora voters at polling stations. LDK and AAK members support this approach.

However, the CEC Secretariat has assessed that this method of voting is likely to fail due to the short time remaining until the elections.

LVV members stated that if this voting method is implemented, diaspora voters may be prevented from voting, as envelopes with ballots could be delivered late.
