On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, President Vjosa Osmani urged institutions to act promptly in cases of violence against women.
Highlighting a recent attack in Gadimë e Ulët, where a woman was assaulted with an axe by her ex-husband, Osmani emphasized that femicides remain a critical societal issue.
“Femicides continue to be an open wound. Not just a problem. Not just a statistic. But a national crisis eroding the foundations of our society day by day. What happened in Gadimë e Ulët is not ‘just another case.’ A woman, even though protected by an active restraining order, was brutally attacked with an axe by her ex-husband. When a protection order remains only on paper, the danger becomes reality. And reality kills us. The number of cases of violence against women and domestic violence speaks clearly: papers do not save lives. Enforcement, determination, and prompt response are what matter!” Osmani wrote on Facebook.
The President stressed that any mistake, negligence, or delay can be fatal, adding:
“No one who commits violence should feel untouchable. No woman should remain unprotected.”
In solidarity with the cause, Osmani also shared a photo of the Presidential building illuminated in red.
