Đorđe Miketić, activist of the “Belgrade Remains” initiative, condemned the violent attack on activists from his group and members of the Stari Grad Citizens’ Assembly outside the tent settlement in front of the National Assembly. The assault, which resulted in serious injuries, was carried out by government supporters, highlighting the increasingly aggressive tactics tolerated by the ruling Vučić regime.

Miketić noted on social media platform X that the attack occurred in the presence of four on-duty police officers, who failed to intervene, raising questions about the state’s complicity or negligence in protecting citizens exercising their democratic rights.

He criticized the authorities for allowing the perpetrators to remain free, effectively enabling the spread of fear and political intimidation in Belgrade. “Will prosecutors and police finally hold anyone accountable, or is this the standard approach of impunity under Vučić?” Miketić asked.

The injured activists were treated at the Emergency Center and are currently at the Stari Grad Police Station.

Earlier reports from the Stari Grad Citizens’ Assembly confirmed that masked attackers targeted members of the Assembly and the United Assemblies of Savski Venac, while police present at the scene did nothing to prevent or stop the violence.

The student initiative “Students in Blockade” also documented that the attackers inflicted injuries, confiscated a member’s phone, and that police officers allegedly mocked the victims instead of intervening—a reflection of systemic impunity and the emboldening of pro-government actors under Vučić.
