UN Women Kosovo has officially launched the awareness campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” with this year’s theme focusing on digital violence. Popular singer Yll Limani has joined the campaign as a public advocate.
The launch event, held on 24 November at Prishtina Tech Park, was organized in partnership with Engineering HER Future, the Kosovo Police, and the British Embassy in Kosovo, in close cooperation with STIKK (Kosovo ICT Association).
During the event, UN Women and Engineering HER Future also introduced the “Orange Code 16” festival, which gathered students from primary and secondary schools across Kosovo. The festival aims to empower young people to use STEM, technology, and digital creativity to design solutions that raise awareness and combat digital violence against women and girls.
Speakers included:
- Vlora Tuzi Nushi, Head of UN Women Kosovo
- Stephen O’Malley, UN Development Coordinator in Kosovo
- Jonathan Hargreaves, British Ambassador to Kosovo
- Dejan Janković, Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police
Yll Limani, as a participant in this year’s global awareness effort, emphasized in his remarks that digital violence carries serious consequences and must not continue.
About the 16 Days Campaign
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global civil society–led campaign held annually from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). It highlights that violence against women remains the most widespread human rights violation worldwide.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one of the most progressive international agreements on women’s rights. In this context, the UNiTE campaign focuses on one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse: digital violence against all women and girls.
