A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a group of young men violently attacking a man in Serbia. The video, also shared on X and Instagram by Nemanja Šarović, leader of the movement Love, Faith, Hope, details the incident in Subotica, implicating supporters of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Sharović stated:
“The men beat the veteran with sticks, leaving him with head injuries, broken ribs, and arm fractures. The current condition of the victim is still unknown, but the attackers are clearly linked to Vučić’s supporters.”
According to Sharović, the assault took place in the Prozivka neighborhood, where seven men attacked a 47-year-old during the daytime, targeting him for publicly criticizing the government. The victim, Dražen Lončar, was transported to Subotica Hospital in critical condition.
The video depicts a man in a red shirt lying on the ground while hooded attackers strike him from behind with metal sticks. Sharović confirmed that the victim is a war veteran, who at the age of 19 was sent to fight in Kosovo and, upon returning, faced social marginalization.
Šarović explained:
“He participated in the March protests alongside other war veterans and spoke publicly about the events and the Subotica attackers he encountered. This public criticism appears to have prompted this brutal retaliation. This is the second attack in two months, and he remains hospitalized with severe injuries.”
The incident underscores the growing intimidation and violence by political supporters of Vučić, raising serious concerns about freedom of expression, public safety, and the treatment of veterans in Serbia.
