On 30 November 2005, the Hague Tribunal declared former KLA fighter Fatmir Limaj – known as “Çeliku” – not guilty after a one-year judicial process. The decision was met with widespread enthusiasm in Kosovo, as Limaj, a former KLA commander and member of the first legislature of the Assembly, had been arrested in 2003 on war crimes charges.

On 1 December 2005, Limaj returned to Prishtina Airport, where he was welcomed by political leaders and KLA commanders, including Hashim Thaçi, Azem Syla, Sylejman Selimi, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi, Ramë Buja, and Agim Çeku.
