On the 81st birthday of former President Ibrahim Rugova, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani paid tribute to the late leader, calling him the architect of Kosovo’s independence and emphasizing that his legacy continues to inspire.
In her statement, Osmani highlighted Rugova as a symbol of resilience and the dream of a free, independent, and democratic Kosovo. She described his life and work as a testament to peace, sovereignty, and integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.
“Born 81 years ago, the architect of independence, historic President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, was a voice of reason and determination in dark times, as well as a guiding light toward freedom and independence. With his wisdom, political culture, and far-sighted vision, President Rugova elevated the cause of Kosovo to the heights of international diplomacy. He remains a perpetual inspiration, a symbol of resilience and the great dream for a free, independent, and democratic Kosovo. His legacy is a testament to peace, a sovereign state, and full integration into the Euro-Atlantic family. Glory to the life, work, and ideals of this historic President,” Osmani wrote.
Rugova passed away on January 21, 2006, and is remembered as a key figure in Kosovo’s struggle for independence and democratic development.
