European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has said that Ukraine is among the countries making the most significant progress toward membership in the European Union, highlighting recent advances in the accession process and ongoing reforms.

Kos said she discussed the next steps with Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi following the opening of two additional negotiating clusters earlier this week.

The two agreed to establish a joint working group aimed at accelerating progress in meeting interim benchmarks and advancing key reforms, particularly in the areas of the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

“This step demonstrates our commitment to supporting Ukraine’s path toward EU membership,” Kos said in a statement.

She stressed that progress would require unity and commitment from all Ukrainian partners involved in the accession process.

Kos also pointed to a decision by Ukraine’s parliament earlier this week to adopt new legislation on education related to minorities, describing it as an example of the cooperation needed to advance the country’s European integration.

Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership remains closely linked to implementing reforms and meeting the requirements established as part of the accession process.
