KFOR Commander Major General Roberto Vergori met with Serbian Armed Forces Chief of the General Staff Milan Mojsilović in Belgrade to discuss the security situation in Kosovo and cooperation between the NATO-led peacekeeping mission and the Serbian military.

According to a statement from the Serbian Armed Forces, the meeting focused on the importance of maintaining open and direct communication between the two sides at all levels to monitor developments on the ground and prevent crises from emerging or escalating.

During the meeting, Mojsilović described the security situation in Kosovo as sensitive and claimed that Serbs living there do not feel safe and that their fundamental rights and freedoms are at risk.

He also reiterated Serbia’s position that KFOR is the only legitimate armed force in Kosovo, asking the international mission to carry out its mandate consistently and impartially.

Mojsilović called on KFOR to act in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and other agreements, and to ensure a secure environment and freedom of movement, particularly for Kosovo Serbs, according to the Serbian military’s statement.

The Serbian army chief congratulated Vergori on taking up his new post and expressed the expectation that cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR would remain professional and contribute to preserving peace and stability in the region.
