U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that “CNN should be sold,” while commenting on Netflix’s $72 billion purchase of Warner Bros. Trump emphasized that any prospective deal “must include guarantees that CNN is part of it, or that it is sold separately.” According to him, “CNN should be sold along with every other asset.”

Netflix’s offer for Warner Bros. Discovery includes only the film studio and the online streaming platforms, excluding television networks such as CNN, which would be transferred to a new company called Discovery Global.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s competing bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery — the parent company of CNN — includes CNN itself and the traditional cable networks. Paramount has submitted a more aggressive proposal, offering a higher share price and full cash payment, unlike Netflix’s mixed offer of cash and stock.

If Netflix’s deal goes through, CNN and the other cable networks would be separated from the studio and streaming services (HBO, HBO Max), and placed into a new independent company.
