The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has expressed her condolences on the passing of Shemsi Krasniqi – Shemi, the iconic vocalist of the legendary band “Ilirët” and one of the most representative voices of Kosovo’s rock scene of the 1980s.
In an official statement from the Presidency, President Osmani said that the news of Shemi’s death was received with deep sorrow, highlighting his extraordinary contribution to Albanian music and to the shaping of Kosovo’s cultural identity, reports IndeksOnline.
She singled out the iconic song “Xhamadani vija vija,” which, according to her, remains a powerful and symbolic memory that continues to unite emotions, history, and identity across generations—just as Shemi’s voice did for decades.
“In these difficult moments, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, collaborators, and the entire artistic community,” the President’s message stated.
President Osmani also recalled that two years ago, Shemsi Krasniqi – Shemi and the band “Ilirët” were honored by the Presidency with the Presidential Medal of Merit, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the country’s culture and musical art.
