Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, in a statement to the media following her meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau during her stay in Washington, said that she has full confidence in President Donald Trump.

Osmani expressed the gratitude of the people of Kosovo for the law recently signed by President Trump, which includes the Republic of Kosovo and explicitly states that there will be no changes to borders.

“This law protects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. It clearly states that the dialogue with Serbia must be based on mutual recognition, supports our membership in NATO, and backs strategic investments in the economic field. We also discussed a number of other issues for which full and continuous coordination with the United States of America is essential, as our most important strategic ally, as well as the next steps and actions that need to be taken in order to restore the Strategic Dialogue between Kosovo and the United States,” she said.

The President emphasized that Kosovo has full confidence in the Trump administration.

“We are among the first countries to have supported a number of actions undertaken by President Trump, whose contribution to peace and stability throughout our region has been essential and continuous,” she added.

Under the National Defense Authorization Act, which was approved by both chambers of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump on December 18, the United States commits to continuing its support for a comprehensive, final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia based on mutual recognition. The Act explicitly rejects territorial exchanges, partition, or any other border changes along ethnic lines in the Western Balkans as a means of resolving conflicts, and calls for supporting pluralistic democracies in the region to prevent the return of ethnic conflicts.
