Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Lawler has confirmed that American support for Kosovo remains “strong and bipartisan” in the U.S. Congress, in a letter addressed to Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, Congressman Lawler thanked Kurti for the meeting they held together in New York in September of this year.

He emphasized that support for the Republic of Kosovo in the United States Congress continues to be strong and bipartisan.

“Recent legislative actions, including the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, underscore America’s continued commitment to Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic future. These efforts are essential to promoting long-term stability, security, and the rule of law throughout the Western Balkans,” Lawler wrote in his letter.

The congressman also extended his holiday greetings to Prime Minister Kurti and his family and said he looks forward to continuing close cooperation and constructive engagement in the coming year.

Prime Minister Kurti and Congressman Lawler met in New York at the end of September during Kurti’s visit to the United States of America. Congressman Lawler is also a member of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Lawler’s comments come at a time when relations between Kosovo and the United States experienced strains during 2025, mainly due to decisions by Kurti’s government to extend sovereignty in the Serb-majority north without full coordination with the international community.
