U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today at Mar-a-Lago for high-level talks aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting focused on strategies to advance the joint work plan between the two countries, including financial matters and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Trump emphasized the urgency of ending the war, stating that both countries want this outcome and are ready to reach an agreement. He announced that he would call Russian President Vladimir Putin after the meeting with Zelensky to continue negotiations and highlighted the supportive role of European countries in the process.
“Both countries want the war to end immediately, both leaders want this, and it will happen. We are fully prepared for an agreement. I will call Putin after the meeting with Zelensky to continue negotiations. European nations have been very supportive and involved in achieving an agreement. While there is a lot of work to rebuild Ukraine, there will also be a great economic benefit for the war-torn country. We can move very quickly. Ukraine values it, and Russia values it. Both want to see it end. Otherwise, it will continue for a long time. And millions more people will die. Millions,” Trump said.
Zelensky thanked Trump for the reception and expressed hope that the talks “will bring peace as soon as possible.” He stated that their teams have worked on a 20-point plan, and the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the implementation strategies of this plan.
Regarding potential territorial concessions that Russia might request, Zelensky said that “the issue will be discussed today” and that his stance is reserved for the moment.
