Serbian police have arrested prominent lawyer Čedomir Stojković, acting on an order issued by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to a public statement by Belgrade-based university professor Ivan Videnović.

Videnović announced the arrest through a social media post, stating:

“The police have just arrested a lawyer on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office – Čedomir Stojković.”

Known Critic of the Serbian Government

Stojković is widely known as a vocal critic of the Serbian authorities and the policies of President Aleksandar Vučić. His arrest has raised concerns among observers regarding freedom of expression and political pressure in Serbia.

This is not the first time Stojković has been detained. He was previously arrested after paying tribute at the ‘Adem Jashari’ Memorial Complex in Prekaz, an act that sparked strong reactions within Serbia.

At the time, Serbian activist Srđan Sandulović claimed he was physically assaulted by Serbian security services following similar actions. Serbian authorities had alleged that such acts constituted incitement of national, racial, and religious hatred, citing the homage in Prekaz as the basis for the accusations.

No Official Details Yet

As of now, Serbian authorities have not released any official information regarding the latest arrest or the specific charges against Stojković.

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in Serbia and increasing scrutiny from regional and international observers over the rule of law and civil liberties.
