U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he plans to discuss the restoration of internet access in Iran with Elon Musk, following a nationwide shutdown imposed amid ongoing protests.

“He’s very good at this kind of thing, he has a very good company,” Trump told reporters when asked whether he would engage with Musk’s company SpaceX, which provides the satellite internet service Starlink—a system that has previously been used in Iran.

Musk and SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Reuters reported.

The flow of information from Iran has been severely restricted since Thursday due to an internet blackout, introduced as protests escalated into the largest anti-government demonstrations against the country’s clerical establishment since 2022.

Trump and Musk have maintained a close relationship, after the billionaire helped finance Trump’s successful presidential campaign and later played a role in orchestrating large-scale spending cuts within the U.S. federal government.
