Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has claimed that the protests in the country are now “fully under control”, after violence escalated over the weekend, reports The Guardian.

Araqchi was also quoted as saying that the protests “turned violent and bloody to give U.S. President Donald Trump a pretext” to intervene.

He further stated that the demonstrations which spread across almost all provinces and dozens of cities were “provoked and fueled” by foreign elements, and pledged that security forces would “pursue” those responsible.

Due to the internet shutdown, it remains difficult to obtain a clear picture of what is happening on the ground in Iran, as access to information is heavily restricted.
