The Emergency Management Agency (AME) has reported that during recent floods, it intervened in 196 cases, evacuating 42 people. The agency warned that rivers are in a degraded state and require urgent maintenance to prevent risks to citizens.

AME Executive Director, Shefki Abdullahu, during a press conference, detailed measures taken in response to the January floods, including the installation of flood barriers and sandbags in Mitrovica, particularly near the Ibar Bridge.

He emphasized that factors such as:

  • lack of river maintenance,
  • deformation of riverbeds following the war,
  • disposal of waste into rivers,

have significantly increased the risk of flooding in many municipalities across Kosovo.

Abdullahu concluded with specific recommendations for preventing emergencies, urging local authorities and citizens to take action and intervene promptly.
