The Assembly and government will be formed quickly once the December 28 elections are certified, says newly elected Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) MP, Mefail Bajqinovci.
According to him, the certification of the elections will pave the way for new institutions to address, as he says, the urgent need to approve the 2026 budget.
He stated that only after the Assembly is constituted, the government is formed, and the budget is approved, will the process of electing the country’s president take place.
“I am convinced we need urgency because we need to approve the budget of the Republic of Kosovo. These are the last days, you know that only in February can salaries be paid across the public sector, to 85,000 citizens in this sector. Therefore, it is urgent that the Kosovo budget for 2026 is approved as soon as possible… We won the elections with a very deep victory, unprecedented in the history of the Republic of Kosovo. The Assembly and the government of Kosovo have the numbers to form institutions. Thus, the institutions of Kosovo will be established very quickly, from the Assembly bodies to the government,” he said.
Although he does not state whether they support Vjosa Osmani for a second term as president, Bajqinovci calls on opposition parties to show understanding to overcome the challenge of electing the president and to avoid new political crises.
Regarding irregularities during the counting of votes for parliamentary candidates, he says that the recount revealed vote discrepancies and procedural defects but does not justify repeating the election process.
He adds that in the next legislature, the Election Law should be amended to correct all irregularities identified during the recount of votes for parliamentary candidates.
