In Kosovo, accused individuals for war crimes against Albanians have been receiving reduced sentences in recent cases.

No trial in the country over the past year has ended with the maximum sentence for those found guilty.

Observers of these trials say that witness-related issues remain one of the factors influencing such outcomes.

Over the past year, at first-instance level, only three Serbs were sentenced to 15 years in prison with their presence: Zoran Vukotić, Zhivojin Nesić, and Milosh Plesković.

Three others received the same sentence in absentia, one was fully acquitted, while five others received prison terms ranging between 5 and 10 years.
