Citizens have begun gathering in front of the KEDS building in Prishtina to collectively oppose the possibility of another increase in electricity prices, Ekonomia Online reports.
Protest banners directly address Acting Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli, responding to claims that citizens are “sacrificing” today for secure energy in the future. One banner reads: “We will not sacrifice ourselves for KEDS.”
Other banners held by protesters include slogans such as:
- “Electricity is not a luxury”
- “ZRRE, servants of KEDS”
- “Electricity prices rise, the people burn”
The Collective for Feminist Thought and Action and the organization “Përpjekja” have described KESCO’s request for a 21.3% increase in electricity prices as an unjust and harmful process for the citizens of Kosovo.
The protest began in front of KEDS, but demonstrators are expected to march toward the Government building, where they will present the same demands—firm opposition to any increase in electricity prices.
