Authorities have dismantled a suspected weapons trafficking operation involving the illegal transport of firearms from Kosovo to Albania, resulting in the seizure of multiple weapons and the arrest of a suspect.
According to police reports, the operation—codenamed “Barriera”—targeted an alleged network attempting to smuggle firearms intended for illegal sale in Albania. During the coordinated action, 12 Glock pistols and combat ammunition were confiscated.
Suspect Arrested During Police Operation
Law enforcement officials confirmed that 27-year-old Dugagjin Berisha, a resident of Kosovo, was arrested during the operation. The suspect was intercepted near the Tufina overpass, at the exit of Tirana’s Outer Ring Road, where authorities had identified and stopped the vehicle he was driving.
During the inspection of the Volkswagen vehicle, officers discovered 10 Glock pistols hidden under the car’s hood, along with ammunition. Further investigations linked the suspect to an additional two Glock pistols, bringing the total number of seized firearms to 12.
Weapons Allegedly Intended for Illegal Distribution
Authorities suspect that the weapons were intended to be distributed and sold in the Fresk area of Tirana, though investigations remain ongoing to determine whether other individuals or criminal groups were involved in the trafficking network.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of cross-border organized crime involvement, and officials are continuing to investigate potential accomplices and the origin of the seized weapons.
The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to face charges related to illegal weapons trafficking and possession of military-grade ammunition.
