The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, commemorated the 26th anniversary of the Meja Massacre, Reporteri reports.

Marking both the National Day of Missing Persons and the massacre anniversary, Abdixhiku emphasized that Kosovo continues to call for justice and for the truth about the fate of 1,617 missing citizens from the last war.

“On April 27, 1999, Kosovo experienced one of its deepest wounds — the Meja Massacre.
On that tragic day, 376 Albanian civilians were brutally taken from life by Serbian police and military forces in an act of barbarism that left a lasting pain in our society.”

He explained:

“The Serbian state apparatus organized the isolation of over 15 villages, gathering and executing our sons and men before the eyes of their families — a sight that even time cannot erase from our memory.
The pain of all those families is also our pain — but above all, it reminds us of Kosovo’s suffering for today’s freedom.
The price of Kosovo’s freedom has been the very price of life — just like that paid by the 376 civilians of Meja.”

In addition, Abdixhiku underlined Kosovo’s ongoing duty:

“Today, we have an additional obligation.
On the National Day of Missing Persons, we continue to call for justice and the revelation of the fate of our 1,617 missing citizens.
Kosovo cannot move forward without bringing peace to the families of the missing.”

“Eternal glory to the martyrs of the Meja Massacre and to all the fallen across Kosovo!”
