Albania is set to take another step toward European Union membership as Prime Minister Edi Rama travels to Luxembourg for the 10th Albania–EU Intergovernmental Conference, where the provisional closure of Chapter 20, covering “Enterprise and Industrial Policy,” is expected to be formalized.
Rama announced the development in a social media post, describing the milestone as further progress in Albania’s EU accession negotiations.
“Good morning, and with the news that today in Luxembourg Albania is taking another step toward the European Union by closing Chapter 20 at the 10th EU Accession Negotiations Conference, I wish you a good day,” Rama wrote.
Chapter 20 covers areas including entrepreneurship, industrial policy, business support, innovation and improving the competitiveness of Albania’s economy.
With the expected provisional closure of this chapter, Albania would have four negotiation chapters provisionally closed, continuing its progress toward EU membership.
The Albanian government has set a target of completing the accession negotiations by the end of 2027.
