Vetëvendosje MP Haxhi Avdyli has confirmed that his party has reached a coalition agreement with the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), securing 61 votes in the Kosovo Assembly—enough to hold a governing majority.

Although the agreement is not yet formalized in writing, Avdyli described the negotiations as “very positive”, suggesting an official announcement may come soon.

“We have ongoing discussions, and they’re very promising,” Avdyli stated on KTV’s “Konfront” program. “It’s not signed, but something will be presented publicly soon. I’m not authorized to speak in detail yet.”

Avdyli emphasized that the presence of an agreement is a sign of healthy democratic process, noting that it’s problematic when a majority-holding party is unable to secure political agreements. He also criticized the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) for being too rigid in opposition.

“I supported the invitation extended to LDK. It’s disappointing to see my former party regress like this—from a state-building force to one now frozen in political inflexibility,” he said. “Kosovo won’t forget this kind of blockade.”

In a notable comment, he also rejected offensive accusations directed at PM Albin Kurti, calling claims that Kurti is “a servant of Serbia” an unacceptable slur:
“Calling Albin Kurti an agent of Serbia is the worst insult one can throw at a Kosovar politician. We may disagree, but that level of accusation is beyond the pale.”

When asked about opposition claims that Vetëvendosje doesn’t have the numbers, Avdyli responded confidently:
“They know we have the votes. We have 61. Not yet 63 or 65, but we aim to grow that number.”

Regarding coalition demands, Avdyli confirmed that Nisma has requested a lowering of the electoral threshold, a proposal that’s being considered within Vetëvendosje and its partner Guxo.

“Lowering the threshold is one of several proposals being discussed. It’s not a final decision yet, but it’s on the table. It’s not necessarily a bad idea,” he added.

If confirmed, this agreement would stabilize Vetëvendosje’s position in the Assembly and reshape political alliances in Kosovo’s current legislature.
