Giovanni Pietro Barbano, the Head of the EULEX Mission in Kosovo, emphasized that Kosovo’s institutions have full authority to investigate the incident in Zubin Potok, while EULEX continues to monitor their actions.
“I am on the ground at yesterday’s unacceptable attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal – a critical part of Kosovo’s infrastructure – in the village of Varragë. In line with our mandate, in close cooperation with the Kosovo Police and KFOR, and with EULEX observers, a police unit has been formed and was immediately on the ground to assess the current situation and its possible consequences,” Barbano wrote on the social media platform “X.”
He added that he appreciated the swift actions of Kosovo authorities in effectively managing the damage and responding to the emergency situation, thereby preventing further consequences for the population.
“Kosovo’s institutions have full jurisdiction to investigate the attack, while EULEX continues to monitor their actions to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that human rights are fully respected,” Barbano concluded.
