President of Albania Bajram Begaj received today President of the European Council Antonio Costa in an official meeting.

During the meeting, progress made by Albania in the EU negotiation process was highlighted, including the holding of the 8th Intergovernmental Conference EU–Albania, which confirmed the fulfillment of interim benchmarks for Chapter 1 “Fundamentals”.

Begaj conveyed to President Costa Albania’s determination to meet its agenda and objectives for closing the negotiation clusters by 2027.

“Judicial reform, strengthening the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, demonstrate that Albania is a reliable and committed partner on its path to joining the European family,” he said.

He added that EU enlargement in the Western Balkans is not only an integration process but also a strategic investment in peace, security, and stability across the European continent.

“Albania is grateful for the strong support that the Council and the Commission are giving to Albania on this journey. Albania will continue with fast pace and concrete results on its path toward EU membership. We are convinced that reforms are not only EU requirements, but above all for the benefit of our citizens.”
