A contingent of 97 Bulgarian soldiers has departed for Kosovo to join NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping mission.
The majority of the troops are from Bulgaria’s 2nd Mechanized Brigade “Tundzha” and were deployed from the city of Stara Zagora.
The Bulgarian contingent will be stationed at Regional Command West at Camp Villaggio Italia, where they will serve a six-month rotation, carrying out patrols, surveillance, and other security support tasks within their area of responsibility, according to Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
Vladko Vladov, Chief of the Political Cabinet of the Bulgarian Minister of Defence, said the deployment reflects Bulgaria’s continued commitment to NATO operations and to maintaining stability in the Western Balkans.
Meanwhile, Major General Deyan Deshkov, Commander of the Bulgarian Land Forces, noted that the Bulgarian Army has participated in the Kosovo mission for 26 years, earning a strong reputation for discipline and professionalism.
Before their departure, the soldiers received an icon of Saint George, the patron saint of the Bulgarian Army, presented by Milena Zheleva, Deputy Mayor of Stara Zagora, as a symbol of support and protection.
