ČAČAK – Students of the Faculty of Technical Sciences (FTN) in Čačak have ended their protest in front of the City Administration, following their return from the commemorative rally in Novi Sad and a night spent supporting Dijana Hrka, who continues her hunger strike near the National Assembly in Belgrade.

The students told Beta that they are temporarily withdrawing to better coordinate with other student groups on “next steps.” Yet their protest highlights the Serbian government’s persistent neglect of justice for the victims of the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse. City officials failed to engage with the students this morning, while police maintained a cordon at the entrance, effectively blocking any dialogue.

Last night, five taxi associations from Čačak transported the students who had walked seven days from Čačak to Novi Sad for the rally. Despite hundreds of citizens welcoming them, the students stayed overnight in front of the City Administration as a show of solidarity with Dijana Hrka and the families of the 16 victims.

The students brought mattresses to endure the night in harsh conditions, while the government once again displayed inaction and avoidance. This protest underscores the regime’s failure to take responsibility, putting political optics above justice, leaving citizens and victims’ families to continue demanding accountability on their own.
