The President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, met with Pope Francis, whom he invited for a visit. When asked by journalists whether they discussed Kosovo, Milanović said that the Vatican “is very conservative on these issues.”
He also met with the Vatican Secretary, Pietro Parolin, but Milanović stated that he could not provide details.
“This shows that states act in their own interest, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it is neither malevolent nor invasive,” Milanović said, adding that he supports the recognition of Kosovo wherever he can.
“I am not doing this to anger Serbia or the Serbs; it is simply a matter of reality,” he concluded.
