Former Serbian Foreign Minister and current Interior Minister Ivica Dačić reacted sharply during a press conference in Bulgaria after being asked by a Bulgarian journalist about accusations from the European Parliament that Belgrade is attempting to undermine the territorial integrity of other countries.
“Mr. Dačić, allow me a question, since we do not know when you will be in Bulgaria again. You speak about friendship and bilateral cooperation, which is excellent and should continue. However, the European Parliament accuses you of attempting to undermine the integrity of other countries. Can you tell us what the true face of Serbian policy is?” the Bulgarian journalist asked.
Dačić responded angrily, referring to Bulgaria’s recognition of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo. The Serbian politician also said that he was born in Kosovo, while claiming that King Milutin also originated from Kosovo.
“How is it not shameful for someone to talk about who violated Serbia’s territorial integrity by recognizing Kosovo as an independent state? Well, I was born in Kosovo, the first capital of Serbia was in Kosovo, in Prizren. King Milutin, who rests in Sofia, is also from Kosovo,” Dačić said, according to the Serbian newspaper Blic, as reported by RKS News.
Dačić also criticized the European Parliament, saying it should first adopt a resolution “condemning the recognition of Kosovo” before lecturing others.
“As for the European Parliament, if the goal of the European Union is to violate Serbia’s territorial integrity, and if this is a condition, then they should first adopt a resolution condemning the recognition of Kosovo, and only then lecture others,” he added.
