The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, held a meeting on Friday as part of consultations on the formation of new institutions, but no concrete agreement was reached.

Following the meeting, both leaders described the discussion as constructive, while confirming that no agreement on cooperation had been achieved.

Kurti said the meeting with Hamza was the first in this round of consultations, emphasizing that PDK is the second-largest political entity in terms of the number of seats in the Assembly.

“We met with Chairman Hamza first in this round of meetings because he represents the party with the second-largest number of deputies after the Vetëvendosje Movement. I thank Chairman Hamza. The meeting was constructive, held in an atmosphere of willingness and interest to establish new institutions in line with the will of the people. We do not have any concrete result or agreement that I could share with the public,” Kurti stated.

He expressed hope that the spirit of cooperation would continue in future meetings so that institutions can be formed within the constitutional deadlines.

Meanwhile, PDK leader Bedri Hamza confirmed that his party will not be part of the next government and will assume the role of opposition during this mandate.

Hamza said PDK entered the elections with a program focused on economic development, social welfare, increasing salaries and pensions, as well as investments in energy and infrastructure. He recalled that the party had been open to discussions without setting red lines, but that after talks with Kurti, its position remains unchanged.

“Then, in order to implement these priorities, we said that the Democratic Party of Kosovo has no red lines. It is open, and it is open for discussions, without imposing conditions, for a comprehensive political agreement involving all institutions. Based on the discussions we have had, which were of course correct, our position is that the Democratic Party of Kosovo will be an opposition party during this mandate. We wish Mr. Kurti and everyone else who is meeting and discussing success in giving the country institutions, including all institutions, because besides the Democratic Party of Kosovo, there are also 98 other deputies in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Therefore, mathematically, it is possible to complete all institutions, and this represents the position of the Democratic Party of Kosovo,” Hamza said.

Later during the day, Kurti is expected to meet with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku.
