The list of 22 political parties and three coalitions that confirmed participation in the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 may still expand with the inclusion of new political entities.
Today, May 10, at midnight, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo closes the deadline for applications from new political entities, including civic initiatives and independent candidates seeking certification to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
KQZ spokesperson Valmir Elezi stated a day earlier that only new political entities — such as coalitions, civic initiatives, and independent candidates — are required to undergo the certification process, while political parties are automatically considered certified under Kosovo’s election law.
“Until May 10, new political entities (coalitions, civic initiatives, and independent candidates) must submit their online applications to the KQZ, specifically to the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control, for certification to participate in the snap elections for the Assembly of Kosovo. According to the Law on General Elections, political parties are automatically certified, therefore this process applies only to new political entities, namely coalitions, civic initiatives, and independent candidates,” Elezi said.
Meanwhile, all political entities have until May 12 to submit online to the KQZ the list of candidates with whom they will compete in the parliamentary elections.
“On May 12, the 11-day deadline for political entities (political parties, coalitions, civic initiatives, and independent candidates) to submit candidate lists for certification in the June 7 snap elections concludes. Candidate lists must be submitted through the electronic platform, following procedures similar to those used in the last elections held in December of last year,” he added.
In the previous parliamentary elections held on December 28, the KQZ certified 1,180 parliamentary candidates from 24 political entities. These included 18 political parties, three coalitions, two civic initiatives, and one independent candidate.
So far, out of 53 registered political parties in Kosovo, 22 have notified the KQZ of their intention to participate in the June 7 elections, while nine have announced they will not participate. Three separate coalitions have also been formed.
Among the parties that confirmed participation are Democratic League of Kosovo, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Democratic Party of Kosovo, Social Democratic Party, and Srpska Lista.
Parties that announced they will not participate include New Kosovo Alliance and Social Democratic Initiative.
Coalitions announced so far include the alliance between Lëvizja Vetëvendosje, Guxo, Alternativa, and the Albanian Christian Democratic Party.
