PDK lawmaker Blerta Deliu has criticized Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović over her controversial remarks about Kosovo, saying that an apology directed only toward Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reflects a dangerous mentality that refuses to confront the truth.
Deliu said that when a Serbian minister publicly states that she would have “ethnically cleansed Kosovo” and then apologizes only to Vučić, it cannot be dismissed as a simple mistake, but rather as a revealing sign of a mindset that has failed to acknowledge the suffering of victims.
She stressed that the apology was not addressed to the victims of the war or to the families who have spent years searching for the remains of their loved ones.
“The apology was not offered to Kosovo, which carries the wounds of a war caused by policies of ethnic cleansing and violence. The apology was directed toward those in power, because the concern was not the glorified crime itself, but the damage to political image,” Deliu wrote on Facebook.
According to her, statements that justify or minimize ideas of ethnic cleansing cannot be treated as “personal mistakes” and require accountability and a clear response.
“Anyone who justifies or downplays the ideas of ethnic cleansing should have no place in institutions that claim to build peace and normal relations,” she added.
