Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama called on voters to deliver one million votes for the Socialist Party (PS) in the upcoming general elections on May 11, during a rally with young supporters in Durrës on Thursday.
Addressing the crowd, Rama emphasized the importance of a decisive victory, setting a clear target: “We must aim not just for 800,000, but for one million votes. That must be our limit. We need to leave May 11 with more than 900,000 votes.”
Rama also urged the youth to mobilize their peers to vote, linking participation to obtaining a European Union passport in the future.
Taking aim at the opposition, he remarked, “We don’t have them in front of us — they are behind us, chasing with screams and growls.” He added that the opposition had reached its maximum strength during the 2021 elections and expressed confidence that they would not surpass that performance this year.
The Prime Minister stressed that Durrës should once again serve as a symbol of victory for the Socialists, highlighting the goal of securing a ninth parliamentary seat in the coastal city.
“Put all your energy into ensuring your peers come out to vote. It’s not worth discussing the opposition anymore,” Rama said.
The campaign in Albania officially kicks off tomorrow, with calls from civil society groups and international organizations for free and fair elections.
