Elected President Donald Trump announced that Tom Homan, who has served as the director of the agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws (ICE), will serve in his new administration as the national leader for immigration issues.
In the announcement made on the social media platform Truth Social, Elected President Trump described Mr. Homan as a determined official on border issues, and it is expected that, according to the promises made during his campaign, the largest deportation operation of illegal immigrants in U.S. history will be carried out.
Along with overseeing the southern and northern borders, as well as “maritime and aviation security,” Elected President Trump said Mr. Homan “will be in charge of all Deportations of Illegal Foreign Nationals to their Countries of Origin,” a central part of his agenda.
He said there was “no doubt” that Mr. Homan “will do a fantastic job in this much-awaited position.”
This position does not require Senate confirmation.
In an interview on the “Sunday Morning Futures” program on Fox News, Mr. Homan stated that the military will not be involved in operations to round up and arrest immigrants who are illegally in the country, and that the ICE agency will act in a “humane” manner to implement the Elected President Trump’s plan.
“It will be a well-focused and well-planned operation, carried out by the people of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this every day. They do it well,” he said. “When we go into the field, we will know who we are looking for. We will know where they are likely to be, and we will act in a humane manner.”
Earlier this year, at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, Mr. Homan expressed disappointment with how the mass deportation operation had been covered in the media.
“Wait until 2025,” he said, adding that while he believes the government should address national security risks as a priority, “no one is exempt. If you’re here illegally, you’d better be careful.”
He also said: “You have my word. Trump is coming back in January. I will join his return and lead the biggest deportation operation this country has ever seen.” /VOA
