Election silence began at midnight in Serbia ahead of the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday, October 25. The restrictions will remain in force until polling stations close at 8 p.m. on election day.

According to the Republic Election Commission (RIK), 6,450,523 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the election, which will determine the composition of Serbia’s 250-seat National Assembly. A total of 18 electoral lists, featuring 2,418 candidates, are competing for parliamentary seats, including nine lists representing national minorities.

The electoral threshold for entering parliament is three percent of the vote, while minority lists are subject to a natural threshold.

Among the lists on the ballot are “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia,” “Ivica Dačić – Factor of Stability,” “Student List – Students Are Winning,” “European Serbia – Marinika Tepić – Zdravko Ponoš,” “Usame Zukorlić – Movement for Unification,” “SDA Sandžak – Guardians of Sandžak,” and the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, led by Balint Pastor.

During the election silence period, candidates and political programmes may not be promoted through the media or at public gatherings. Calls urging voters to support or reject a particular electoral list are also prohibited, as is the publication of election-result estimates before polling stations close.

Legal entities that violate the restrictions face fines ranging from 100,000 to 600,000 Serbian dinars.

Voting will take place at 8,392 polling stations, including 93 locations abroad across 37 countries. Voters from Kosovo will cast their ballots in Raška, Tutin, Vranje and Kuršumlija.

Serbian citizens living in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to vote at 28 polling stations, according to information previously provided by the Serbian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Data reported by the SRNA news agency show that 1,092 voters are registered in Višegrad and 272 in Novo Goražde. Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
