European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos expressed concern today over smear campaigns and personal attacks against civil society representatives in Serbia.
“In recent days, many representatives of Serbian civil society have been exposed to smear campaigns and personal attacks,” Kos said on the social media platform X.
She emphasized that a strong civil society and engaged citizens are an asset to every democracy and are essential for a successful EU enlargement process.
“They deserve respect and the freedom to speak without intimidation or attempts to delegitimize their work,” Kos said.
