The European Parliament’s Rapporteur for Kosovo, Riho Terras, has reacted to the controversial statement by Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović, describing it as shameful and damaging to trust in the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Calling the remarks disgraceful, Terras quoted Paunović’s statement:

“If I had been in Milošević’s position in 1998, I would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo.”

“This seriously undermines trust in the EU-facilitated dialogue,” Terras wrote on the platform X.

Paunović’s remarks have also been formally raised with the European Union by Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Agron Bajrami, who argued that the statement represents a violation of the 2023 Brussels Agreement and seriously damages the dialogue, trust, and normalization process between Kosovo and Serbia.

The comments have triggered widespread international criticism, with officials and representatives from the EU, United States, and other partners calling for responsible political rhetoric and rejection of statements that justify or promote ethnic cleansing.
