The Special Prosecution of Kosovo is expected to begin excavations today in the mountainous area of Kalludër village in Zubin Potok, where human remains were discovered two days ago.
The excavations follow the arrest of two Serb suspects accused of war crimes.
According to current suspicions, the area being investigated may contain a mass grave with the remains of Albanian civilians killed during the war in Kosovo.
One of the most significant cases linked to the site is the disappearance of the group known as the “23 Intellectuals of Mitrovica”. The group, consisting mostly of doctors, professors, activists, and other prominent citizens from the Mitrovica region, was last seen on April 19 while traveling toward Montenegro.
According to testimonies and evidence collected over the years, they were stopped and taken by Serbian forces in the area of Zubin Potok. Since that day, none of the 23 men have been found, and their fate remains unresolved.
The families of the missing hope that the excavations will finally bring answers after more than two decades of waiting for the truth.
