The live broadcast signal from the Albanian Parliament was temporarily interrupted on Thursday after a fire damaged the fiber-optic transmission line used for media coverage of parliamentary sessions.

The incident occurred while parliamentary proceedings were taking place amid disorder, with lawmakers moving directly into voting on several draft laws under tense conditions.

Cause of the Incident

According to information from the scene, the Parliament’s transmission fiber caught fire, resulting in a loss of signal for media outlets that broadcast parliamentary sessions live.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire was caused by a flare ignited inside the chamber by an opposition Democratic Party (DP) deputy. A member of the Parliamentary Guard reportedly seized the flare and threw it out of a window, after which it ignited the transmission fiber outside the building.

No Serious Damage or Injuries Reported

Authorities confirmed that the fire was extinguished quickly, preventing further damage. No injuries were reported, and there were no additional safety incidents following the event.

The Parliament has not yet issued an official statement regarding potential disciplinary measures or technical assessments of the damage, while media transmission was gradually restored.

The incident adds to a series of escalating tensions inside the Albanian Parliament, which have repeatedly disrupted legislative work in recent weeks.
