Three people have died in France due to health complications caused by an extreme heatwave, while around 2,700 schools are expected to close or modify their schedules as authorities across Europe issue warnings over soaring temperatures.

Temperatures in Bordeaux, southwestern France, are forecast to exceed 42°C (107.6°F) on Monday.

France’s national meteorological agency, Météo-France, has announced that 49 administrative regions will be placed under a red heatwave alert, the highest level of warning.

“We are facing at least several days of very, very hot weather. We do not know when temperatures will begin to fall,” French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist told TF1 television.

Meanwhile, local official Sophie Brocas confirmed that three elderly individuals, aged between 80 and 95, died over the weekend in the Bordeaux region as a result of health problems linked to the ongoing heatwave affecting France.

The latest developments highlight the growing impact of extreme weather events across Europe, as authorities urge residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and dehydration.
