Ghislaine Guillen, the Director of Culture in France, has requested approximately €36.6 million to preserve the rare 19th-century monument, which has sustained damage and holds significant military and historical value.
Government representative Mathieu Barbier also called for the protection of the fortress, which has been featured in films and television programs, while highlighting the damaged areas.
“There are significant signs of water damage, with visible cracks in several parts of the fortress. If we do not act now, it will be destroyed,” he stated.
Yves Stassen, the technical director, added that the reconstruction project will focus on the historical structures.
